   administrator
   Born in Châlons-sur-Marne, Jean Talon served as a military commissioner (1654) and as intendant of Hainault, Belgium (1655), then was sent by jean-baptiste colbert to be intendant of Nouvelle-France (canada). There, from 1665 to 1668 and again from 1670 to 1672, he contributed to the development of colonization by exploiting the resources of the region's forests and wildlife and increasing its maritime trade with the Antilles, as well as by his administrative organization. upon his return to France, Talon was named secretary to the king's cabinet (1681).
